Markus shares his home with three rescued senior dogs. Shea, a Pittie, and ChiChi, a "strange mix," were adopted from the SPCA. Bane, a Husky/German Shepherd mix, came from an abusive home.

For over a decade before joining the POMDR staff in March 2025, Markus worked for and on behalf of non-profits. He has experience in fundraising, major gifts, donor retention, corporate giving and sponsorships, staff management, grant writing and event planning. He is thrilled to be bringing his skills to POMDR to help dogs and their people.

His many accomplishments include raising over $500,000 for Alzheimer's research through the 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer's in Santa Cruz and Monterey, and finding permanent housing for 25 families in 2019 working with the Homeless Services Center.

Along with his devotion to his family and his dedication to nonprofit work, Markus is passionate about music. He is an avid pianist and has performed not only in the Santa Cruz/Monterey and Silicon Valley areas, but across the country.
