Foster needed 9/26-10/23
Meet Jackie, a spirited senior girl with a heart as big as her personality. Don't let her age fool you; this girl still has plenty of pep in her step. She does equally well with a 20 minute sniff-n-stroll around the neighborhood as with a 3 mile hike. She is no slouch on trail and keeps up a good clip when she's in the mood. Jackie is great on leash and wonderfully responsive to treats.
Jackie gets periodic zoomies and adores an interactive play session with her people. The game is dealer's choice; tug (she will graciously keep shoving your end of the toy back into your hand), chase-and-be-chase, Wrestlemania, she's up for pretty much anything. She does use her mouth in a playful way when the game is afoot but is responsive to redirection. Her house manners are impeccable, housetrained, and OK being left home alone when necessary.
Jackie's feelings about other dogs vary. She lives very well with her part time foster sister - a street-smart senior Chihuahua and is relatively indifferent to most other dogs but she doesn't suffer fools and is not a fan of big, over-eager youngins. As a general rule, she seems to prefer small dogs to dogs her own size. She would love to play with the Chihuahua in the house, but her tactile, enthusiastic play style combined with the size differential and the Chi's age make it an unrequited love.
She is surprisingly easy on leash for such a big, strong dog, but will do best with someone comfortable handling her size and strength, especially during those moments when her inner puppy emerges. Jackie was reportedly crate trained in her previous home but is never crated in her foster home and is the perfect housemate. She made an amazingly smooth transition to her foster home and is primed to do the same for her adopters. If you're looking for a loyal, lively companion who's equal parts affectionate, self-contained, and adventurous, Jackie might be your perfect match.
Jackie joined the POMDR pack because one of her loving guardians has dementia and is moving into assisted living. Sadly, they can't take her with them. This sweet, silly girl is looking for someone to swoop in, scoop her up, and show her that she has many more years of love ahead of her!
