This poor guy was taken to Hitchcock Road Animal Shelter when a good Samaritan found him in sad shape. He had a swollen paw that was very infected. They were kind enough to give him a bath before taking him to the shelter. Aside from his paw being infected, he also had countless embedded foxtails. His mats were cutting off circulation and he was just in sad, sad shape. Thankfully, Maxxton's sweetness was not impacted by all that and is a very friendly little guy!
Even after being cleaned up and feeling better, he is slow and quiet. He needs help and patience with his potty training and lots of positive encounters to bring the pep back into his step. He seems to be deaf and while he still has vision, he doesn't track well and his ability is likely diminished.
He loves lap time as well as walks and does well on a leash, albeit is a little slow in moving. He is politely social with other dogs he meets on walks. Maxxton is comfortable sleeping all night in his crate. He is friendly to new people and children. His foster home has a cat he likes to interact with and to whom he is overall respectful toward.
Maxxton needs help understanding that being alone is ok. When left behind, he can occasionally become anxious and may bark. Because of this, a family that is home a lot would be most ideal for him. He does like to cuddle and is good in the car.
